There's So Much More To See
Recently during our family day at the museum, I overheard a dialogue between a mother and her son. He had been playing in the play area for a while with Grace, and then his mother told him it was time to go. As with most children being gently peeled away from their beloved playtime, it came with resistance. “I don’t want to leave!” he said sadly. With sympathy yet expectancy, his mother responded, “But there’s so much more to see!”
As I quietly listened to this familiar dialogue between mother and son, I couldn’t help but hear a deeper meaning for you and me.
How often is God leading us into a fresh new exhibit in the museum of life, and we resist because the pleasant familiarity of our current experience doesn’t seem to be worth leaving?
Like a mother who knows the plethora of beauty and joy to been seen within the walls of a multi-level museum, God knows the wonder and opportunity on the horizon of His Master plan for our lives. He doesn’t want to see us stuck in one room and miss the whole museum. Each room tells a story and has its own unique beauty to be seen. So God would never ask us to let go of something we hold dear without knowing full well that what He is leading us into far outweighs what we hold dear.
“Do you know of any parent who would give his hungry child, who asked for food, a plate of rocks instead? Or when asked for a piece of fish, what parent would offer his child a snake instead? If you, imperfect as you are, know how to lovingly take care of your children and give them what’s best, how much more ready is your heavenly Father to give wonderful gifts to those who ask him?” (Matthew 7:9-11 TPT)
So will we be willing to trust our Heavenly Father enough to let go of the familiar and experience everything He has for us, or remain in the comfort of our current experience and run the risk of missing the big picture?
I hope we let go.
I hope fear comes crumbling down as we forsake the familiar and embrace God’s beckoning to the unknown.
It’s probably better than we could imagine.
So if you’ve been weighing in your mind the decision of whether or not to step away from something sweetly familiar without having tasted what’s to come, this may be your sign to go exploring.
See you in the next exhibit. I believe there’s so much more to see.
