The Pottery Shop: A Bible Lesson Comes to Life

“Mom!! Pleeeaasse take me to see a potter!”

For several weeks now, Grace as been begging me to find a pottery store where she can watch a potter throw clay & make pottery. She watched a few videos on YouTube, but she wanted to see it up close with her own eyes! It all started with our weekly bible study, and this particular week we were learning about story of the potter & the clay from Jeremiah 17.

Wednesday, while taking a stroll on Magnolia Ave. in Fort Worth, we stumbled upon a new pottery shop that was literally getting the sign peeled onto the outdoor glass. To say Grace was thrilled is an understatement. She was overjoyed. We met Kendall, the owner, and she invited Grace to come back and watch her throw clay Thursday after 11:30. Grace squealed with excitement.

When we got there today, Grace had the most wonderful time learning pottery technique and watching Kendall throw clay and form it into beautiful plates and bowls right on the spot.

As I stood and watched everything unfold, snapping pictures and video while taking it all in, I couldn’t help but think about how much God loves Grace. Loves us. He knew the desire of her heart to see His Word come alive in a real way, and He granted her request.

Thank you, Kendall for being a vessel of God’s love to Grace. Thank you Lord for loving your children and reminding us that we are clay in your hands, and you’re making something beautiful out of us.

“Arise and go down to the potter’s house, and there I will cause you to hear My words.” Then I went down to the potter’s house, and there he was, making something at the wheel. And the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter; so he made it again into another vessel, as it seemed good to the potter to make. “O house of Israel, can I not do with you as this potter?” says the LORD. “Look, as the clay is in the potter’s hand, so are you in My hand, O house of Israel!”
‭‭Jeremiah‬ ‭18:2-4, 6‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

“But now, O LORD, You are our Father; We are the clay, and You our potter; And all we are the work of Your hand.”
‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭64:8‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
